Sprains/Strains:

Sprains or strains are always an unwelcome event in our lives. To athletes or people that do physical labor it is even more imposing. The important step is to stop doing whatever caused you the pain, immediately. Dr. Metcalfe finds that the sooner you initiate treatment, the faster it will heal. However some sprains and strains become chronic and frustrating and difficult to treat. To avoid strains it is important to make sure your muscles are warmed up and well stretched. Lifestyle Changes:

Immediately cease what you are doing.
Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation of the injured body part. (RICE)
Allow your body to rest for a few days after injury.
Cross train and choose activities that put very little strain on the sore body part.
Stretch everyday. Don’t allow the injury to get tight.
Localized massage is very effective.
Once healed, start back slowly with the exercise that injured the body part.
Get new equipment for better body support.

Dietary Changes:

Eat a healthier diet by avoiding saturated fats, fried foods, and eating more fruits and vegetables. This will help you avoid any weight gain during the recovery time.
Eat fruits that are rich in pigments: blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and cherries.
