Hypertension:

High blood pressure is well known as The Silent Killer, because there are few symptoms it causes. Nowadays, most people test their blood pressure at home, local drug and grocery stores, so they are aware of what their blood pressure is. It is important to treat hypertension because it increases the risks of having a heart attack or a stroke, and also damages the kidneys, eyes, and blood vessels. Hypertension is diagnosed by taking two separate readings on two different days and the results of both being greater than 140/90 mmHg. Dr. Metcalfe recommends that all her patients try natural therapeutics and lifestyle changes for mild to moderate cases of hypertension. Severe hypertension 160/115 should be treated immediately with drug therapy; however, natural therapeutics should be used in conjunction. The incidence of hypertension increases with age (>55) and is greater in African-Americans.
