Human Papilloma Virus/HPV:

This is a sexually transmitted disease that causes genital warts in both male and females. There are approximately 50 different genetic variants of this virus. It is important to treat it immediately, as some of the genetic strains are linked to the cause of cervical cancers in women. It is recommended that both partners be examined and treated at the same time. There is an incubation period from 1 to 8 months after initial exposure. The first signs of infection are often small bumps in the perianal region, around the vulva and vagina, and on the penis or in the pubic hair. These warts may be singular or grouped together, and eventually may develop an appearance like a little cauliflower. Treatment involves topical treatment and internal treatment. Sometimes they may spontaneously reoccur, and total treatment time can be from weeks to months.
